Boundary Layer Effects

Moving Ground Planes, Rolling Roads

A moving ground plane (or rolling road) is a system whereby the test section surface below the model consists of a wide flat belt that rotates between a front and rear roller. This effectively reduces the boundary layer effect that is otherwise built up under the model.

A variant of this solution is to provide individual belt drive units for each vehicle wheel and provide a single belt below the vehicle to simulate road movement.
